Pilonidal Sinus Treatment


OVERVIEW

A pilonidal sinus (PNS) is a tiny tunnel in the skin and fills with fluid and pus. It seems in cleft at the top of the buttocks. Pilonidal sinus is very much paining and can be easily infected. If it infected, it will ooze pus and blood. Pilonidal sinus mostly affects men who is sitting lot like drivers. PNS is also common in young adults. It usually needs to be treated once it get infected.

SYMPTOMS

In pilonidal sinus only you can notice as a symptom is a tiny dimple on the surface of the skin. If it get infected the dimple will develop into cyst. The symptoms of an infected pilonidal sinus include:

  • Severe pain when sitting.
  • Enlarging the cyst
  • Reddish color around the PNS
  • Pus or blood draining from the cyst, and causing a foul odor
  • Many sinus tract in the skin
  • Low fever

DIAGNOSIS

It is difficult to notice pilonidal sinus unless it become infected.

TREATMENT

The treatments of pilonidal sinus depend on the factors:

  • Symptoms
  • Size of sinus
  • Whether it is the first sinus or you are suffering it frequently.

A pilonidal sinus needs treatment with antibiotics. The pus inside will also probably need to be drained. There are a number of treatment options for a pilonidal sinus that’s painful, bleeding or leaking discharge. Treatment isn’t needed if there is no symptoms of infection. It’s important to keep the area of your buttocks clean regularly. Don’t shave the affected if the doctor didn’t instruct.

SURGERY

If you are suffering from a recurring PNS or many sinus tract, then the doctor will suggest a surgical procedure.

The doctor will give you a local anesthetic before starting the surgery. Then the surgeon will open the surgeon will open the lesions and remove all of the pus and debris from the dimple. After complete this process the surgeon will stitch the wounds closed.
